STERLING – A man who was injured in a dispute overnight was found dead after a minor car accident on Route 14A early Saturday morning, state police said.
Troopers at the scene of the accident discovered a “discrepancy between the mechanism of injury and vehicle damage,” state police said. The driver had suffered a chest injury unrelated to the crash and was pronounced dead on scene by EMS personnel.
State police determined that the driver’s injury stemmed from an earlier dispute. The location of the dispute was secured as a crime scene, state police said.
The man has been identified, but his name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, state police said.
The office of the Chief State’s Medical Examiner will conduct a postmortem examination Tuesday to determine the exact manner and cause of death.
The car accident occurred around midnight on Route 14A, east of Church Street, state police said.
The road was closed in both directions around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, according to the Department of Transportation.
