Bryan MacDonald, a junior at Springfield College, came up with a unique way to promote the Be The Match bone marrow registry: he wrote and produced a rap song and music video.

“The main purpose and goal of creating the song was to help raise awareness of the national bone marrow registry and to help save lives,” MacDonald says.

The registry helps someone with illnesses like leukemia or lymphoma find a donor for bone marrow. Over the past 26 years, Be The Match has helped make more than 55,000 transplants possible. Most patients who need a bone marrow transplant do not have a match in their family and depend on the registry to find a match. The organization relies on contributions and grants to cover the $100 cost of adding each new member to the registry.

Heather LaCasse, of Be The Match, says there is a need for more young people of diverse racial and ethnic heritage to join the registry and help patients searching for a match.
