Friends and family gathered in South Windsor on Sunday evening to remember two teens killed in a car crash Saturday night.

Flowers and heartfelt messages filled Abbe Road, the site of the crash.

“They’re great kids, and it shouldn’t happen to them,” said Emily Lucia, a friend of

both teens.

Brooke Wormstedt, 15, of East Windsor and Matthew Masse, 18, of Vernon were killed.

Three others teen remain hospitalized: the driver, Sara Ballard, 19, of South Windsor; Christine Huppe, 17, of South Windsor and Megan Barnaby, 16, of East Windsor.

“Many people are going to be affected by this, and my prayers are with them,” said Laura Larson.

Friends say that Brooke was part of a fishing club.

“She was fun, she was always fun, laughing. It was kind of a shock. It really is,” said Larry Marino. He was friends

with Brooke’s grandfather.

The loss is tragic and friends and neighbors say it shouldn’t have happened. Police believe speed was a factor. Neighbors on Abbe Road say they’ve seen too many close calls on their street.

“People come here all the time and try to get airborne off this jump,” said Rob Whittaker.

“If you go fast enough before that bump you could be airborne,” said another neighbor, Janice Warren.

South Windsor Police and Metro Traffic Services are still investigating the crash.

For now the site of the accident will remain covered in flowers, candles and cards.
