Matt Warshauer, a professor of history at Central Connecticut State University, talks about an upcoming Civil War naval encampment scheduled for June 1 and June 2 at Mystic Seaport.
The event, which is the first of its kind in the Northeast, will bring naval and marine reenactors from across the east coast. The seaport’s village green will be filled with naval and infantry encampments with tents, exhibits and living history presentations. Speakers will explain the unique circumstances sailors confronted during the Civil War and shanty singers will roam the camps singing sea ballads.
In addition to teacher, Warshauer is an author with publications including “Connecticut and the Civil War.” To learn more about the encampment, visit www.ccsu.edu/civilwar.
