PD: 2-Year-Old Found Naked On New Haven Street, Mother Charged

A city woman was charged with risk of injury Monday after her 2-year-old child was found wandering naked down the street.

The child was spotted near the intersection of Chapel Street and Ellsworth Avenue by two residents who called police around 9:51 a.m., police said.

Officers located the child’s mother, 23-year-old Amanda Sellers, at her home – unaware that the toddler had gone missing, police said. Sellers said she was asleep and the child knew how to let herself out.

Sellers told police that the back door of the home had been previously damaged by someone trying to kick it in, police said. The officers found a strong smell throughout the apartment, a non-functional kitchen and food and garbage on the floor.

Police called the Department of Children and Families, who placed the child in a relative’s care, police said.
