PLAINFIELD – A local man was killed in a hit-and-run accident on School Street Monday night, police said.
Shortly before 10:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a person struck by a vehicle on School Street near Putnam Road and Main Street in the Central Village section of town, police said.
Witnesses said a dark colored SUV, possibly an Isuzu Rodeo or Toyota 4Runner, was traveling northbound when it struck a man who was attempting to cross the roadway.
Police said the man, identified as Robert Johnson, of Main Street, was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.
Police believe the fleeing vehicle suffered extensive headlight damage and possibly minor front end damage. Anyone with information is asked to call 860-594-0804 or 860-564-7065.
