NEW MILFORD – Emergency workers were searching Lake Lillinonah Tuesday night after receiving a report that a person was missing after jumping into the water.

State Environmental Conservation police were unable to verify the report as of just before 10 p.m., but a sonar search was continuing, said Dennis Schain, spokesman for the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The environmental police said there was no evidence of a person in the water, no reports of a missing person and all the cars in the parking lot of the state park were accounted for, according to Schain.

Newtown Underwater Search and Rescue was conducting the sonar search, Schain said. The New Milford police and fire departments, Bridgewater fire department, state police and the members of the Lake Lillinonah Association, also responded to the scene, Schain said.

The area of the search, which began about 7:30 p.m., was near Lovers Leap State Park.
