NEW HAVEN – The New Haven Police Department is hiring and its current group of cadets took to the streets to get the word out.

Class 1713 went door-to-door to spread the word about the department’s desire to hire more than 100 new police officers over the next few years.

42 Cadets passed out flyers and hung signs on doorknobs. The process to become a full-fledged officer takes about seven months. Class 1713 started at the beginning of this year and will be graduating this August.

“I wanted to make a difference,” said Justin Cole, an Academy Cadet. “I wanted to have a job where you communicated with people, worked with people, something that changes every day, so it’s exciting, it’s an exciting career.”

The New Haven Police Department launched the 2013 Recruitment Outreach Drive on May 13.

To fill out an application, visit the website: www.Policeapp.com. Applications must be completed online by June 28, 2013.
