After all the rain that has fallen lately, the last thing anyone wants to see is a forecast containing the words “heavy rain.” We have a nice dry day today, but then some heavy rain will likely fall on Thursday.

High temperatures today will be in the 70s statewide, but it will be quite breezy with wind gusts to 30 mph as the day goes on. The skies will be mostly sunny.

As early as Thursday morning we may start to see some rainfall, and it’ll likely pick up in intensity during the afternoon and evening. It’ll be windy, and there may be a few thunderstorms in there as well. The potential exists for 2 to 4 inches of rain on top of the 6 or more inches that we’ve already seen in the last two weeks. It goes without saying that there may be some flooding across the state.

As we experience the rainfall on Thursday, the Mid-Atlantic states will be experiencing some very severe weather. There’s the potential for strong thunderstorms and a few tornadoes from Richmond, Va. to southern New Jersey.

A few showers may linger into Friday morning, but the trend will be to gradually clear it out with highs in the mid to upper 60s.

This weekend looks beautiful, with sunshine and highs around 80 degrees!
