The trip from Hartford to Old Saybrook isn’t a tough trek for most of us, but we need to qualify that.

A Wethersfield man will soon make that trip along the river, or should we say in the river.  Todd Mozzer is swimming it.

It’s all to raise awareness of child sexual abuse. Mozzer is part of “Darkness to Light,” an organization dedicated to helping the victims of sexual abuse.

His plan is to take to the Connecticut River in Hartford and swim over 50 miles to Old Saybrook. He’s training with friends five days a week, with sessions lasting two hours.

“Its crazy that I have to jump in and swim the length of the river to try and raise money and awareness, but I’m a survivor and a helper,” Mozzer said.

Jeff Stuart, Mozzer’s friend and sometime swim coach added, “I know for a fact that he will complete this swim.”

If all goes according to plan, Mozzer will take to the water on June 28, and he hopes to be done by June 30. Recently, one of Mozzer’s training areas has been Lake Terramuggas in Marlborough.
