John W. Olsen, president of the Connecticut AFL-CIO and a longtime labor rights champion, said Tuesday he will not seek re-election next fall to the office he has held for a quarter century.

First elected in 1988, Olsen, 63, is the longest serving president of the statewide union federation and has spent more than 30 years advocating on behalf of Connecticut’s blue-collar workers.
