A Willimantic man is being held on $1 million bond Tuesday night after shooting a Willimantic police officer inside a home where there was a deceased male.

At 11:15 Tuesday morning, the Willimantic Police Department was dispatched to a residence at 31 Tunxis Lane to conduct a well-being check on an individual. But, the responding officer was shot and a 90-minute manhunt for the suspect ensued.

Andrew Samuolis, 34, whose last known address was the residence where the shooting occurred, was apprehended by a State Police K-9 team at  approximately 1:00 this afternoon on Route 32, near the IGA Supermarket. State Police tactical team members were in place and involved in the chase and apprehension of the accused.

The officer, who sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound, is being treated at Windham Memorial Hospital. Samoulis was treated and released from the same medical facility to police custody. He was transported to Troop K in Colchester after being charged with breach of peace and interfering with police. He is scheduled to appear in Danielson Superior Court tomorrow.

State Police Detectives anticipate additional charges will be lodged upon completion of this investigation. A subsequent search of the Tunxis Lane residence revealed a deceased male. Police are treating it as a homicide.
