A North Haven day spa was raided Thursday morning. The FBI along with North Haven and East Haven police are searching for evidence that may link the Shiatsu Spa to an organized prostitution ring.
“I’m totally disgusted that these types of activities can occur, and we’re just not going to tolerate it in North Haven,” said Michael Freda, first selectman of the town.
The raid lasted for several hours. Officers bagged, boxed and trucked away major evidence.
“They’re basically cleaning it out,” Freda said. “They are taking every single piece of equipment that’s in there in that building.”
Town Hall and the police department were called about potential suspicious activity at the spa by nearby businesses. Debi Ramsey owns the Beauty Mark Hair Studio, which is next door to the Shiatsu Salon. Ramsey observed “a lot of male activity” at the spa.
“It’s terrible,” she told Fox Connecticut. “It’s terrible for the girls that work there and for the owner to actually put them in a position of that.”
There were no immediate arrests at the scene, but Freda said arrests and more raids may result as part of the ongoing investigation.
Fox Connecticut was unable to reach the owners of the Shiatsu Spa by phone for comment.
