This week, Hartford Courant business columnist Dan Haar talks about layoffs at Waterbury Hospital and Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. in Stratford.
At the hospital, 83 positions were eliminated with about half being layoffs and half being positions that will remain unfilled. Haar said the job cuts may be a signal that the hospital is suffering from the $500 million in cuts that hospitals faced in Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s new budget.
As for Sikorsky, Haar said the layoffs are nothing to be concerned about but are rather the result of a decrease in government contracts for military aircraft. The company still employs more than 8,600 people in Connecticut.
