A worker at the Saint Clement’s Castle Marina discovered partial human remains Tuesday afternoon along the banks of the Connecticut river in East Hampton.
East Hampton, Portland and State Police responded to reports of the remains.
According to a spokesman for DEEP, a human foot inside a boot is specifically what was located.
The remains were sent to the medical examiner’s office as investigators combed the shore and the water for further evidence.
East Hampton boater Joe Paradise was at the marina to check on his boat after the recent rain storms.
“I was shocked, I showed up and it was all out of the blue”, said Paradise.
The State Police missing persons unit was also on hand along with police dogs to investigate the scene.
It’s unclear whether the foot belonged to a man or a woman or whether it will shed light on any open or active missing persons cases.
