When planning that summer vacation, something to consider is whether or not to purchase travel insurance. Suzanne Aresco, travel manager at AAA Travel, says travel insurance provides a piece of mind and about half of her customers in Connecticut buy some kind of trip insurance.
The small additional cost of insurance could save you thousands if you are forced to cancel your trip at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances such as hurricanes, floods, illness or political unrest. Policies can also cover lost luggage.
AAA advises against purchasing a policy directly from a cruise line or the wholesale tour operator from which you bought the trip because their policies can carry less coverage and benefits may stop between 24 and 72 hours before you depart.
