Susan Tamulevich, director of the New London Maritime Society and director of the Custom House Maritime Museum talks about some of the state’s historic lighthouses.

In July, New London Harbor Light – the oldest and tallest lighthouse on Long Island Sound – will be featured on a U.S. Postal Service stamp representing Connecticut. A statewide fundraising campaign is underway to restore and repaint the lighthouse. The goal is to raise $150,000 toward the total of $300,000 required for the task.

Long Island Sound is unique due to the large number of lighthouses lining its shore. The New London harbor has three alone: the New London Harbor Light, the Ledge Lighthouse and the Avery Point Lighthouse.
