New-London_countyNEW LONDON — Police are investigating an early-morning shooting Friday on Jay Street.

A 911 caller reported hearing gunfire and seeing someone being carried down the street shortly before 12:30 a.m., police said.

Officers and medics arrived and the wounded man, identified as Jose Rosado, 19, of Crystal Avenue, was transported to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London. Rosado appeared to have a gunshot wound to his foot, police said.

The man who police believe pulled the trigger was reportedly part of a large crowd that had been walking across the street from where Rosado was shot, police said. They said they have not identified the shooter yet.

Investigators recovered several .40-caliber shell casings, a police press release states. The road was closed to traffic for several hours while detectives gathered evidence.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the detective division at 860-447-1481.
