Amistad America has entered into a partnership with a New Haven-based organization dedicated to the abolition of human trafficking and child slavery.

Starting July 6, Amistad America and Love146 will be working together during onboard programs and port visits. Visitors will learn what made the Amistad survivors vulnerable to slavery and hear how American abolitionists defended their freedom and led these survivors home.
“The Freedom Schooner Amistad transformed a ship of enslavement to a symbol of hope and a monument to the pursuit of universal human freedom,” said Hanifa Washington, director of education and community outreach for Amistad America. “Today, the replica sails the world as a continuation of that symbol and as a floating classroom, reaching thousands of people every year.”
Visitors will learn that slavery has evolved into complicated multi-billion dollar industry known today as human trafficking and they will be given the opportunity to engage in the fight against it with a series of outreach materials and toolkits provided by Love146, an organization that works to end child trafficking and exploitation.
