WEST HARTFORD – If you think gas prices in Connecticut are high now, just wait a couple weeks. Experts say we could soon pay up to 30 cents more for a gallon of regular gas.

Experts say the increase is due to a number of factors, including shrinking domestic supply and rising oil prices.

In the last two weeks, oil prices have increased by 10 percent, as have gas futures. Consumers can expect those increases to be passed down in the coming weeks.

Some experts are predicting a 25 cent increase at the pump by August. Others say regular gas could cost up to 30 cents more.

Experts say these increases also have to do with speculation.  There is fear about turmoil in gas-producing countries like Egypt, Syria and Iraq.

Gas prices in Connecticut are hovering around the four-dollar mark.

The Mobil on Albany Avenue in West Hartford increased regular prices Friday morning from $3.91 to $3.97.

The national average rose two cents on Thursday, which could be a sign of what is to come. Connecticut’s average for regular unleaded is already higher at $3.80.  That’s 15-cents higher than this time last year.

Connecticut drivers are also adjusting to an increase in the state’s gross receipt tax. The tax increased July 1, costing drivers nearly four cents more a gallon.
