An 82-year-old Hartford woman remains in very critical condition tonight after a 22 year old Hartford supermarket delivery driver backed over her on a sidewalk yesterday.
22-year-old victor Morales was arrested on 5 motor vehicle charges, including operating a motor vehicle without a license. And today, it was confirmed, he is also an undocumented citizen.
An accident waiting to happen is how many residents of Hartford’s Parkville section describe the sidewalk and parking set up near the intersection of Newton and park streets, outside the c-town supermarket, where the accident occurred.
Hartford police sergeant Glendaly Garcia says, “It has been an ongoing issue with other numerous ongoing traffic incidents. License and inspections and our town hall will be considering the zoning for this particular area.”
Dennis lee, who is a longtime resident of Newton Street, and a neighbor of the victim, noted, “You’ve got a lot of older people walking these streets. We’ve got a lot of young people walking these streets. And, we told the c-town several times, look, don’t drive on the sidewalk and they do that on a regular basis.”
Morales will be arraigned in Hartford superior court next Thursday. Immigration officials say they will deal with Morales once his local charges are adjudicated.
