New London Harbor Light is one of five lighthouses to be featured on new forever stamps produced by the U.S. Postal Service.
“There’s something about lighthouses,” the USPS said in a statement on its website. “They fascinate us; they enchant us; they draw us in. Utilitarian yet majestic, these structures achieve a beauty and romance that reach far beyond their practical natures. Recognizing our love affair with these lonely sentinels, the U.S. Postal Service has released a series of stamps celebrating our nation’s lighthouses.”
The New London Harbor Light stamp was officially unveiled at a ceremony held Saturday at the Custom House Maritime Museum in New London.
New London Harbor Light dates back to 1761 and is Connecticut’s oldest and tallest lighthouse.
The new forever stamps can be purchased at any post office location or at www.usps.com.
