Hartford community advocate A.J. Johnson talks about his campaign to spotlight the small businesses in the capital city.
“When I first came back to Hartford in 2008 from college I noticed things in Hartford weren’t getting better,” Johnson said. “There were a lot of foreclosures, a lot of violence happening … I noticed that our small businesses were struggling.”
Johnson said part of the problem is people who work in Hartford and live in the suburbs and spend their money there.
To help businesses, Johnson has organized happy hour nights out at various businesses in Hartford to showcase what the capital city has to offer. The first event at the Hook & Ladder Restaurant on Main Street drew more than 50 people.
