Sgt. Sean Murphy, a Massachusetts State Police photographer, chronicled the manhunt for accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. And the day after a  Rolling Stone magazine cover of Tsarnaev caused a firestorm of criticism, Murphy released some of his photos to Boston Magazine.

“This guy is evil,” Murphy told the magazine. “This is the real Boston bomber, not someone fluffed and buffed for the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.”

The photo shows Tsarnaev as he emerged from hiding in a boat in Watertown April 19, with a sniper’s laser focused on his forehead.

Late Thursday, Murphy was relieved of his duty with the state police, who said his case would be reviewed next week.
