A cold front has finally moved offshore ushering a cooler and drier air mass today through Friday with a northwest wind, lower humidity and comfortable sleeping nights.

This front will stall offshore as low pressure will be developing off the Virginia capes and rolling along the front. The position of the front is critical in whether we get a period of rain across Connecticut by Thursday night into Friday morning. At this point, it is a very close call.

Some models show a direct hit while other models show a brushing of light to moderate rain across eastern areas of the state with clouds to the west of Hartford and one computer model keeps  all of Connecticut dry through Saturday. In either case, the humidity will drop off and it will still feel much more comfortable whether we have rain or no rain Thursday night and Friday.

Temperatures will stay in the upper 70s to low 80s tomorrow and Friday. Humidity will begin to increase Saturday as high pressure builds off the eastern seaboard and we will begin to feel the effects of that return flow off the ocean transporting increasing levels of moisture.

By Sunday it will be warm and humid with highs well up into the 80s.  Another cold front will approach the region late in the day with the chance for thunderstorms. Early next week looks warm and dry with no big heat waves in sight. The tropics are starting to get a bit active as tropical depression number four, off the African coast, will track across the Atlantic during the next week, heading toward the Caribbean. The storm is a sign of things to come as we head into August and September – the height of the hurricane season.
