According to Vincent Vittorio and Nathaniel Thomas McGill, you should. The pair is debuting a new documentary called, American Made Movie, which focuses on the decline of American manufacturing and its impact on communities. It promotes a message to stop relying on trade barriers to protect manufacturing jobs, arguing that Americans should tap into the same pride of place and craftsmanship that farmers have used to fuel the movement toward locally-grown food. Many Americans are willing to pay an extra dollar on a pound or organic produce and Vittorio and McGill say that persuading people to buy American-made products, even at a slightly higher price, will benefit the manufacturing industry.

“Protectionism can be Republican or Democratic, and we weren’t out to make that kind of film,” Vittorio said. “Politics is always uncertain, but the role consumers play in the economy never changes.”

The film’s promotional tour begins Friday and proposes a nationwide version of support-small-business campaigns.

There will be a free screening of the film at the Town of Cromwell Gymnasium tonight at 6:30 p.m. For more information, visit the website: theamericanmademovie.com
