NEW FAIRFIELD — A 53-year-old man was arrested Friday night after allegedly robbing a bank by passing a note to the teller.

Robert Rustigan, of Charcoal Ridge Road East, was charged with robbery, larceny and threatening, state police said.

Troopers were called to Webster Bank on Brush Hill Road just before 5 p.m. They found that the bank had just been robbed by white man who had passed a note to the bank teller demanding money, state police said. No weapons were displayed or implied, but the teller handed over an undetermined amount of cash and the suspect fled in a vehicle.

State police searched the bank and spoke to a witness who had taken a picture of the suspect’s vehicle with a cell phone.

The picture led troopers to the suspect’s neighborhood where they located the car and Rustigan, state police said.

Rustigan was held with bail set at $50,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
