The Beardsley Zoo has new animals, including three female Mexican wolves, which are extinct. The wolves are part of a recovery and wild reintroduction program. Also new to the zoo is an Amur leopard named Sofiya. The Amur leopard is the rarest cat in the world, with an estimate of 35 in existence. Sofiya is part of a Species Survival Plan.

In addition to the new animals, the zoo has established a conservation fund, whereby every guest who walks through the gates automatically helps creatures in the wild. The zoo contributes 25 cents of every admission directly to conservation projects to protect wild animals in Connecticut and around the world.
