The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that the plane that crashed in East Haven Friday, is a Rockwell International Turbo Commander 690b. The plane can be described as a twin engine business plane.

The aircraft was built in 1978. It has turbo prop engines and can seat about 11 people. It is registered to Ellumax Leasing LLC in Medina, Washington.

According to Flightaware.com, the plane flew from the South towards Tweed New Haven Airport and missed its approach to land. It is unclear what happened next. In order to land safely, the plane would have needed to turn, and fly into the wind towards the South.

The National Transportation Safety Board is now investigating.
