A teacher at Manchester’s Bennet Academy has been charged with conspiring to steal scrap metal from property in the Town of Union.

Natalie Dix, 41, whose current address is listed in Wales, Mass., but has also had addresses in Stafford, and Holland, Mass., was charged Saturday in connection with an incident police say occurred Aug. 7 on property off Old Browns Road in Union.

Police executed an arrest warrant Saturday charging Dix with conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, accessory to sixth-degree larceny and interfering with an officer. She posted $1,500 bail and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Rockville Aug. 19.

State police said a trooper discovered Dix parked in a car on Old Browns Road and waiting for a man described as her partner who they say was at the property stealing scrap metal. The man fled, and police are searching for him. Dix was allowed to leave that night, and police subsequently obtained the arrest warrant.

Police said Dix and a man were seen in the same area about a week before but were interrupted by a neighbor as they tried to steal scrap metal. Police said they are still trying to identify that man and asked that anyone with information contact major crime unit detectives at 860-896-3200.

Police took Dix into custody Saturday during a motor vehicle stop. They said she was driving the wrong way on an I-84 exit ramp in Union.

Dix has other cases pending against her in the Rockville and Enfield courthouses. Those charges include possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to appear in court and several motor vehicle charges.

Manchester interim school Superintendent Richard Kisiel said he plans to meet with Dix and the teachers’ union to discuss the allegations against her. One possible outcome of that meeting is that Dix could be suspended pending further investigation, he said.

The possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia arrest dates back to April 8, 2012.
