BRISTOL – A local man was charged with assault Sunday afternoon after he intentionally rammed his SUV into the back of another vehicle on Riverside Avenue, police said.
Roman Jimenez, 45, of 41 Peck Lane struck a Nissan Versa stopped at a traffic light with his Ford Explorer just after 2:30 p.m. When the two male occupants got out of the Versa to look at the damage, Jimenez intentionally accelerated the Explorer, police said. That forced the two men to dive out of the way but not before one was struck on the knee, police said.
Jimenez then rammed the Versa up onto a grass median, police said.
Witnesses were then able to pull Jimenez out of the Explorer.
Jimenez faces charges of assault in the second degree; criminal mischief in the second degree; and breach of peace in the second degree.
Also, Jimenez was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs; failure to drive a reasonable distance; operating without a license; and failure to maintain auto insurance.
He was held on bonds totaling $15,000 and will appear in Superior Court in Bristol. Police said during the booking process it was determined that Jimenez was wanted by the Department of Homeland Security/Immigration and Customs Enforcement and an order to detain for deportation was sent to the Bristol Police Department.
