It’s the first day of school in Hartford and officials are celebrating not only the start of another year but the opening of several new schools.

Global Communications Academy started the year in a state of the art new school after gutting an existing school three years ago. About 900 students from kindergarten to 10th grade attend the school.

In July, the school was designated as an International Baccalaureate world school. Mayor Pedro Segarra, who was on hand for the first day of classes at the new school, said the millions and millions of dollars going to the new schools in Hartford represent a long-term investment by the city and the state.
