A flash food warning has been issued for Hartford County through 1:30 p.m. as heavy downpours pass through the state. Heavy rain is also striking the shoreline and Northern Connecticut.

The scattered, strong storms are producing the possibility of flooding, reports of flooding coming out of Plainville.

In addition to the rain, numerous lightning strikes have occurred and even some small hail in places.

It may calm down this afternoon but still showers and thunderstorms scattered through this evening with a flash flood watch in effect for the Northern four counties of Connecticut and Western Massachusetts through 8 p.m.

The storms coming on a day unofficially known as the “last day of summer,” full of picnics, beach trips and several fairs across the state..

The sun returns late on Tuesday, with comfortable air moving in for Wednesday through next weekend. High temperatures will be 75-80, with overnight lows in the 40s and 50s. It’ll be a little taste of fall as we start September.
