GLASTONBURY — A West Hartford man was charged with drunken driving after a one-car crash on Diamond Lake Road early Monday, police said.

Two utility poles came down in the crash, which caused a day-long power outage in the neighborhood. Power was not restored until 8:20 p.m.

“He ruined a lot of people’s Labor Day celebrations,” Agent James Kennedy said.

Jeremy R. Ryan, 24, of South Main Street was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive to the right, police said. He was released on a promise to appear in Superior Court in Manchester on Sept. 16.

According to police, the crash happened about 2:50 a.m. near the intersection with Quail Run. The vehicle he was driving hit one pole, which pulled down a second utility pole, police said.

He was not seriously injured.
