It’s practically the weekend and the weather looks good. So take advantage of the last few weeks of summer, the beginning of a new school year and the launch of the gala season.

Celebrate Greater Hartford’s Latin culture at the Riverfront Latin World Rhythms Festival on Saturday, Sept. 7. The festival is from 1 to 10 p.m. and includes art, food, beverages and performances. Featured is Daniel Salazar’s 20th anniversary performance of “Guitar Under the Stars.” The event is free. Information: 860-713-3131 or go here.

At Winding Trails in Farmington at noon Saturday, Sept. 7, its Southern CT Chili Cook-off  ”Chili-Palooza” time. The event features libations, a chili cook-off, several bands as well as other entertainment. Proceeds benefit The Miracle League and Abilities Without Borders, a non-profit serving children and adults with disabilities. Tickets are $10 for children, $25 for adults and $50 for a family pass. Want to eek out some al fresco dining before the season ends? Head over to the Nathan Hale Homestead in Coventry Sept. 7 where Connecticut Landmarks will celebrate the museum’s rich agricultural heritage and freshness of Connecticut grown food at its “Dinner at the Homestead.” Dinner will be prepared by Executive Chef Scott Miller of Max’s Oyster Bar and Max Catering and will be paired with distinctive wines and beers from the Olde Burnside Brewing Company. Also on Saturday, Sept. 7,  put on your tux or heels and head over to the Connecticut Convention Center for the St. Francis Foundation Miracles XXIV Gala. Enjoy being a girl? Head over to the Connecticut Convention Center Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the Comcast 11th annual “Connecticut Women’s Expo.” Fashion shows, demonstrations, exhibitors,products and services, and special appearances by celebrities are all part of the two-day event.
