MANCHESTER — One child was killed and another is in critical condition after a two-car crash at Spencer Street and Hillstown Road on Thursday, police said.

Both of the children were less than a year old; one died at Hartford Hospital and the other was being treated there.

One car traveling west on Spencer Street collided with a car traveling north on Hillstown, police said. The first car then struck a telephone pole.

The driver of the car on Hillstown was a 17-year-old, police said. The cars involved were a silver Nissan Murano and a blue Honda.

One of the vehicles ran a red light, but it is unclear which one, police said.

Members of the Metro Traffic Reconstruction Team also responded to investigate, police said. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to call Officer Aaron Calkins at 860-645-5560.

The main entrance to Manchester Community College, which is off of Hillstown, was closed while police investigated the crash scene, according to the school’s website.
