On a day when 22 Connecticut communities are holding primaries, the jockeying for the state’s most important political position was also in the spotlight today as well.

Greenwich businessman Tom Foley, who narrowly lost to Governor Dannel Malloy in 2010, today announced he might run for governor again. And, there was a reason he made his announcement at a Bridgeport community center.

“The failure of the governor’s agenda falls to hardest on the residents of cities such as Bridgeport, who already were suffering from high crime rates, too few jobs, the impact of corruption and under performing schools,” said Foley, a former Ambassador to Ireland.

Foley added that the governor has also failed by slapping large tax increases on middle income families and implementing policies that are driving the tax base and employers out of our state.

Jonathan Harris, the Executive Director of the Connecticut Democratic Party, says, “The Governor inherited the highest structural deficit in the nation, nearly 3.7 billion dollars. He has transformed that with cuts, givebacks by state employees and revenue increases into a $312 million surplus.”

Foley says he will decide over the next several months if he will indeed run for Governor.
