Later today the state Department of Transportation will hold public hearings to receive input on proposed increases in bus fare.

They’re hosting events in cities across the state including Bristol, Hartford, New Britain and New Haven. The DOT wants to increase all fares by about 15 percent starting in January. The increase would add about 20 cents to a one-way ticket.

The DOT last raised bus fares about 4 percent at the start of 2012. At the time it said further increases would follow because prices had stayed level for seven years in a row even though the cost of labor, fuel, repairs and new buses had been rising.
