ENFIELD — The Democratic Town Committee voted Wednesday to endorse a petition seeking a referendum on the town’s decision to post armed guards in the schools.
The petition was circulated by Elizabeth Davis, who has submitted 2,865 petition signatures to the town clerk’s office for verification. Davis was also a Democratic candidate for the town council, but had to withdraw because of her commitment as an active-duty member of the National Guard.
In addition to the party’s support for Davis’ petition, the town committee nominated Charles Ladd to run for the District 3 town council position, replacing Davis.
Davis has led the petition drive to force a referendum on the town’s decision to post armed guards in the school, saying the decision in March by the town council and school board should have been made by voters.
