A video depicting puppy mills is already stirring up trouble in Branford, and it hasn’t even aired yet.
All Pets Club had threatened to sue the town because Branford’s Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter Commission produced the thirty minute video.
The video accuses the pet store of selling puppies they got from out-of-state puppy mills.
Branford’s First Selectman got the town’s attorney to send a cease and desist letter, ordering any reference to the commission or the town to be edited out of the video.
The commission’s chair, Lori Nicholson, said that will be done, but she claimed All Pets Club won’t be cut out of the reedited version.
“We have actual footage from those mills, we have the actual inspection reports from places that the pet store in town has sourced from, it’s not my words, it’s the USDA, these are his suppliers, and it’s the truth,” Nicholson said.
An attorney representing the pet store said if they deem the video is libelous or slanderous they will sue the individuals who produced the video, not the town.
