BRIDGEPORT — Multiple people, worried that Daquon Gomillion was physically abusing his 5-year-old son, reported their concerns in June and July to the state Department of Children and Families or to police, court records say.
But authorities either couldn’t find the family or lacked evidence to open an investigation.
That changed on July 16, when a dentist examining the boy for dental work noticed that he had a split lip, missing and loose teeth and scars on his arms. The dentist called the DCF.
The agency tracked down the mother and the boy and met with them. After seeing him covered in scars, DCF workers called police and took custody of the boy, according to an arrest warrant.
