The driver, 18-year-old A.J. Cedillo, of West Haven, has the most serious injuries, police said.

The three passengers, all teenage girls, sustained serious injuries, according to police. Police would not release the girls’ names Friday night because they are juveniles.

The four were in a black Subaru traveling west when the driver lost control and the vehicle crashed into a utility pole in front of 85 Indian River Road, police said. All four were taken to a hospital. Some of the occupants had to be extricated from the car, police said.

Friday’s crash, which happened at a bend in the quiet suburban road, was reported by several 911 callers at 3:54 p.m.

One witness said that only one of the teens was responsive when emergency responders arrived. The pole appeared to be driven deep into the vehicle, the witness said.

The utility company responded to the scene as well when electrical issues were reported in the area.

A portion of Indian River Road was closed while police investigated the crash. The road was reopened at about 9:15 p.m.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash. Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information is asked to contact Officer Brian Foote at 203-891-2130.
