HEBRON – The RHAM varsity cheerleading team is holding a fundraiser dinner Saturday in memory of their former teammate.

Paige Houston, who would have entered her senior year this fall, died in an early morning car crash on Aug, 6. A week later, the team started a scholarship fund to honor Houston, who would have been one of the team’s captains.

“The cheerleaders wanted to find a way to honor her memory by having the community come together,” said Sandy Nichols, chair of the dinner. “It felt like the perfect way to honor her.”

The varsity team, Coach Christina Glass, and parents organized the pasta dinner. Proceeds will benefit the Paige K. Houston Memorial Scholarship, one of three scholarships in Houston’s name. The outpouring of support, Nichols said, is a testament to Houston’s giving nature.

The Paige K. Houston Memorial Dinner will take place on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the RHAM High School cafeteria. The cheerleading team will be selling tickets during school lunch.

Tickets can also be purchased in advance at http://www.pkhmemorialscholarship.myevent.com/. The group’s goal is to raise $10,000. So far they’ve collected $1,606. Sandy Nichols said because of the overwhelming support from the community, every element of the dinner has been donated and 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit the memorial fund.
