NEWINGTON — Police arrested a 20-year-old man who robbed a woman at gunpoint the parking lot of a Walmart on Sunday night and fled.

Police dogs tracked the suspect, Luis Alicea-Rodriguez, to a room at the Grantmoor Motor Lodge on the Berlin Turnpike where he was living, police said.

The woman’s purse and the weapon used in the robbery were found in the room, police said.

Police say Alicea-Rodriguez approached the woman, who was accompanied by another woman and a juvenile male, pointed a gun at her and ordered her to hand over her purse. He fled the scene on foot with the woman’s purse.

He is charged with first-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, risk of injury to a minor, breach of peace and brandishing a facsimile firearm.
