Thomas Buckley, assistant clinical professor at the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy, talks about ways that pharmacists from UConn are reaching out to communities in need.

For the past several years, a team of pharmacists and social workers from the University of Connecticut has been helping members of Connecticut’s and Massachusetts’s large Cambodian-American community manage their medications and improve their access to health care.

Many of these individuals have significant physical and mental health concerns brought on by the years of trauma and suffering they incurred under the brutal Khmer Rouge regime during the 1970s. In addition, they may be having trouble taking the right medications, or finding the right doctor, or maintaining their medication therapy because they simply aren’t familiar with or are afraid of our system of health care.
