A six-month investigation into gun trafficking in the Bridgeport area led to the arrests of three men and the collection of more than 40 guns.

“These kinds of hoodlums selling guns have no place in civilized society,” said Mayor Bill Finch at a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

21 year old Sergio Paul of Trumbull, 28 year old Nolan Moore of Bridgeport, and 33 year old Jeremias Serrano of Bridgeport were arrested between September 23 and September 25. Each face a list of gun  related charges. All three are currently jailed at the Bridgeport Community Correctional Center.

The law enforcement operation was conducted by the Statewide Urban Violence Crime Control Task Force. Police say among the weapons they recovered were an illegal Street Sweeper, a 12 gauge shotgun, and an AK-47 with 30-round high capacity magazine.

“That AK-47 has rounds that can penetrate a bullet proof vest,” said Police Chief Joseph Gaudett, Jr.  “There’s only one purpose for a weapon like that and it’s to kill cops.”

Mayor Finch added, “imagine the damage these weapons could have done had they been used in the commission of a crime. It’s sobering to think what they can do.”

Police note their investigation continues and more arrests could be on the way.
