This week, Hartford Courant business columnist Dan Haar talks about the impact the government shutdown will have on Connecticut, a new survey of the top brands in the country and the launch of Connecticut’s health insurance exchange.

Perhaps the biggest impact of the government shutdown in Connecticut will be for workers that rely on defense contracts. About 9,000 workers in the state are expected to be furloughed for the duration of the shutdown.

According to a listing by Interbrand that came out Monday, Apple is the No. 1 valued company in the world at $98 billion. Three Connecticut companies made the list: Fairfield-based General Electric at No. 6, Duracell, based in Bethel, at No. 85., and Smirnoff, the vodka developed in Hartford by the old Heublein Co., at No. 95.
