Vaughn, of Lawrence Street in Hartford, and Boatman, of South Main Street in New Britain, also were charged with violation of a protective order, they said.

Police and firefighters responded to 243 South Main St. about 8:10 p.m. after receiving a report of a porch fire, according to a police press release. Firefighters quickly put out the fire, and officers began interviewing neighbors.

Police said they made the arrests based on the interviews with neighbors and with the two suspects. While they don’t know why the fire was started, police said the two were arguing at the time it was set.
