In Westerly, R.I., we are doubling up on the adventure. Not far from the Connecticut border, there is an opportunity to take a ride back in time aboard an authentic biplane.

Brilliantly painted dark and sky blue, the 1931 Waco is tough to miss.

“There’s probably a half dozen in the world still flying,” said owner, pilot, and tour guide Tom Miozzi, who began Biplane Rides of Rhode Island last year. “I’d compare it to riding a motorcycle in the sky.”

A thousand feet up, the open cockpit biplane offers million dollar views of the Rhode Island coast and some of the Ocean State’s best known landmarks.

No gate delays, no cattle call, no middle seat.

“Until people actually see these areas from the air, they don’t really realize how beautiful they are,” Miozzi said.

Pilot Tom Miozzi  flies out of Quonset, Newport, Westerly and Richmond. For prices and more information, click here.
