After a devastating fire, two iconic Madison businesses are rising from the ashes, and they have a very supportive community to thank.

Main Street in Madison hasn’t really been the same since June, when a fire ripped through the heart of two well-known businesses.

People in town say Village Pizza and Madison Wine Shop embodied what it meant to have a neighborhood hangout.

“I walked down the street and I saw this building was ravaged. And it’s like losing Village Pizza in Madison is like if Mystic Pizza burned down. It was that sort of location that everybody knew and everybody gravitated to,” said Matt Williams.

“[Village Pizza is] sort of the place. It’s a place that a lot of people get takeout dinner or they bring their kids after their Little League games. It’s just a nice down home little restaurant,” said Eileen Banisch of the Madison Chamber of Commerce.

And so when that fire destroyed the businesses, neighbors sprang into action through a series of fundraisers that led to this moment. Four checks totaling more than $7,600 were divided and donated among the pizza joint, wine shop and two Madison volunteer fire departments.
